Conference for Young Artists

When:  October 30, 2024

Where:  Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, MN

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

For:  Grades K-8 (K-3 must have chaperone attend with them)

Cost:  $40 for students and $10 for adult chaperones

How do I register my child?  Print the registration form.  The 'classes' link above provides a list of the classes available for the day along with a description for each class.  Completed forms, along with payment, can be turned in to your child’s teacher at West Elementary.  

Additional information will be sent home for those attending the conference closer to the date. 

Please note that if you register online without going through MCC, the school does not receive any registration information on your child and you are responsible for getting your child to and from the event.

Additional Conference Details: The Young Artist Conference nourishes students’ creative and artistic talents by exposing them to a variety of visual and performing art forms. Students are inspired by the keynote presentation and then begin making their own works of art through hands-on classes. Possible class choices include wheel thrown pottery, Morse code bracelets, chalk pastel made easy, cultural dancing, cartoon creations, sand art, and print making.

Guest Speaker: Hector Curriel, Visual Artist

Hector Curriel is a Sioux Falls-based visual artist, originally from Lima, Peru. He studied architecture in Lima, Peru. He moved to the US in 2001, and studied art in Minneapolis, MN. Hector is a visual artist working in many mediums, such as fine arts, portraits, i lustrations, caricatures, and cartooning. As a fine artist, many of his paintings are located in private and public co lections in the States, and he has been featured in various exhibits. Hector has been working for many years as an accomplished artist presenter and holds frequent art workshops. Learn more about Hector on his website at www.hectorcurrielartwork.com
