Rebel Roundup- Transitions
The transition between sports seasons is always a busy time at Murray County Central. I was asked the other day if I was able to have a few more evenings at home since our fall sports had wrapped up, but truth be told, it is often even busier during this transition than while our teams are in full swing. Evening games are replaced with concerts, musicals, conferences, and celebrations and we get to experience other displays of student talent that leave one feeling thankful and proud to have all the opportunities we have for students in our district.
During the past three weeks we have had some phenomenal demonstrations of student talent of a different kind. Our fall choir concert was superb featuring our Junior High and Senior High choirs as well as our Rebel Voices. Congratulations to Mrs. Sheldahl on orchestrating a wonderful performance and to all of our students on their hard work. The choirs are sounding great! Our indoor marching band concert exemplified why we took 1st place in all three of our major competitions this year. Mr. Helgeson does an excellent job each year and is one of the main reasons our band performs at the caliber it does. Consistency of high achievement is a hallmark of our band program. A big shoutout to all the marching band students for getting up each morning and reporting for practice by 7:00am, even during their summer break! The fall musical ‘Grease’ was an amazing display of student talent and acting capability as Mr. and Mrs. Harms cast the students perfectly in their roles. It is so fun to see the talents of students expressed on stage. Drawing out that talent is a gift. We had high school conferences on November 6th and we had our highest turn out in 3 years at 58%, which is a really good rate for a secondary school. We are slowly creeping back up to our pre-Covid attendance percentages. Veterans Day was celebrated on November 10th with our annual program in the gym. Students escorted in our Veterans and honored them by singing and performing different songs. A big thank you to Mr. Joe Biren, our featured speaker this year, on bringing a solid message of a call to service that resonated with those in attendance. Our American Education Celebration was on November 14th and we recognized academic letter winners, student honorees, and numerous staff who continue to make an impact on the lives of the students at MCC.
Over the last few weeks, I have found myself reflecting on the pride I feel in our school and community. We are blessed with so much talent, great students, excellent teachers, and supportive families. This combination is a recipe for success and our district is fortunate to have the support it does. It takes all of us working together to help students achieve their highest potential. Thank you for the work you do on a daily basis to ensure every child is successful in school and life.
