MCC High School

With two and a half weeks under our belt here at MCC, students are settling into the school routine.  Teachers are giving some of their first tests and quizzes, and students are busily studying, taking notes and relearning how to stay organized for their classes.  It feels good to be getting back in the swing of things and have the hallways full once again.

During our annual back to school assembly, we discussed setting goals, meeting those goals, and our expectations for the school year.  At MCC we believe in continual improvement and that there is always room for growth.  Some of the goals we set this year were related to our Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) data. Specifically at the elementary, we are working to improve our math scores, while at the high school, we are working on boosting our reading proficiency.  While we will always set goals to get better, our district continues to do well- scoring significantly above state average in all assessed areas.  In fact, when we compare our district’s proficiency scores to the schools in our area of southwest Minnesota, we ranked second in reading, second in science and third in math overall.  We talk a lot about a tradition of excellence here at MCC.  Over the last several years, we have consistently ranked in the top three districts in SWMN.  We attribute this success to the hard work of our students, tireless effort of our staff, and full support of our community all working together to provide opportunities for students to achieve their highest potential.  Everyone from our teachers, volunteers, support staff, community members, students and parents deserve recognition for this accomplishment.  Thank you for the work you do on a daily basis to ensure every child is successful in school and life.

During our assembly this year we also discussed the 100th year anniversary of our building and the fact that our students and staff are a part of that history.  The stories that were told at our anniversary celebration in August hallmarked the relationships students had with each other, their teachers, and the community.  As a greater MCC family, we are connected through our shared past.  It is my hope that our students and staff continue to make meaningful memories during their time here at MCC for many years to come.

As we look at the calendar, we are very excited for homecoming this week and all the traditions that come with this special time.  Homecoming will be kicking off on Saturday Sept. 14th at 7:00pm with our Powder Puff Football Game.  There will be many other events throughout the week as well including iron man volleyball, dodgeball, a pickleball tournament and class wars.  Coronation will be on Monday Sept. 16th at 8:00pm in the auditorium.  On Friday, Sept. 20th we will have the Parade at 2:30pm, Football game at 7:00pm, with the dance and bonfire following the game.   The pride and respect the students show during these activities is wonderful.  Homecoming and its traditions help to build school spirit and our sense of Rebel Pride.  They help establish a firm foundation for the entire year.  We are off to a great start here at MCC.

As we move forward this year, I want you to know that I look forward to working with our community to help make our district the best place it can be.  It truly takes all of us working together to help develop the potential in every student.  Thank you for your support.

Go Rebels!
