4-day

Dear MCC Community Members/MCC School District Families,

I am writing to inform you about an important consideration by the School Board regarding the future structure of our school week/calendar. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes, reduce our ever increasing operational costs, and adapt to the evolving needs of our students, families, and staff, we are exploring the possibility of moving to a four-day school week at the beginning of 2025-26. This change could bring about a more flexible and efficient learning environment. The School Board has not made any final decisions but is gathering information and feedback to make an informed educated decision.

This potential shift is being considered for several reasons including cost efficiency, improved student/staff well-being, more consistent scheduling, increased teacher training, planning time, and increased student attendance to name a few.

While there are compelling reasons for this potential change, we understand that it is a significant decision that impacts many aspects of our school community. To that end, we are committed to engaging all stakeholders in the process to ensure that everyone’s thoughts and concerns are considered. We value your input and invite you to share your thoughts, concerns, and suggestions in helping us determine whether a four-day school week would benefit our school community.

Later this month, we will be hosting a community informational meeting on Wednesday, January 22nd to provide additional information. This meeting will be held in the HS Auditorium from 6:30-7:30 p.m. We will also be sending out surveys to gather feedback and offer other opportunities to ensure that every voice is heard. Your presence and participation are greatly appreciated.

We want to be transparent and thorough in our decision-making process. We are carefully considering the potential challenges of a four-day school week, such as childcare needs and how this may affect students who rely on meals and other services during the school week. These concerns are critical, and we are dedicated to finding solutions that minimize disruptions for families.

An information page has been set up on the district website to help answer as many questions as possible at this time regarding what a potential day, week, and year would look like along with other pros/cons of this potential change. One thing to remember is that no decisions have been made regarding the implementation of a 4-day school week and there is a process that needs to be followed. However, this process is time-sensitive as any changes to the school calendar will require planning time to provide a smooth transition.

Please feel free to reach out with any immediate questions or to express your thoughts. We look forward to continuing this conversation with you. Thank you for your time, commitment, and ongoing support of our school community. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence in education.
