To Our Valued Stakeholders,

As we continue to explore the possibility of a four-day school week, we want to provide an update on the progress, the decision-making process, and the anticipated timeline. Our goal remains to balance financial responsibility with maintaining the highest level of academic excellence, student and staff well-being, and operational efficiency.

Process Overview

Over the past several months, we have engaged in extensive research and discussions to evaluate the potential benefits and challenges of shifting to a four-day school week. Our approach has included:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Hosting community meetings, gathering input from parents, teachers, students, and staff, and conducting surveys to assess perceptions and concerns.

  • Academic and Operational Review: Analyzing instructional impact, student achievement data, and operational considerations such as transportation, extracurricular activities, and food service.

  • Financial Analysis: Reviewing cost-saving opportunities in areas such as utilities, staffing, and transportation to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Student and Staff Well-Being: Examining research on how schedule changes impact teacher retention, student attendance, and overall well-being.

Key Milestones and Timeline

  • December - February: Data collection and stakeholder input sessions, review of survey results and financial analysis.

  • February 10: MCC School Board voted 5-1 to move forward with the completion of the 4DSW application to MDE.

As always, we take great pride in our school district and its commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience. Our teachers, paraprofessionals, cooks, custodians, office staff, administrators, and every other member of our district family play a crucial role in shaping a supportive and enriching environment for our most cherished priority—our kids. We understand that this decision carries both opportunities and challenges, and we will continue to keep you informed every step of the way.
