The Minnesota School Boards Association has set February 18-22, 2019 as School Board Recognition Week in Minnesota as a time to build awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our society. Murray County Central is joining all public school districts across the state to celebrate School Board Recognition Week to honor local board members for their commitment to all of the communities and its children.
“It takes strong schools to build a strong community, and these men and women devote countless hours to making sure our schools are helping every child learn at a higher level,” Superintendent Joe Meyer said. “They make the tough decisions every month and spend many hours studying education issues and regulations in order to provide the kind of accountability our citizens expect.”
Meyer said the key work of school boards is to raise student achievement by:
“School board members give the MCC District’s citizens a voice in education decision making. Even though we make a special effort to show our appreciation in February, their contribution is a year-round commitment.”
The members serving our district and their years of service are as follows:
Dan Woldt (Chair) – 17, Tony Clarke (Vice Chair) – 9, Sue Streff (Treasurer) – 11, Lauren Biegler (Clerk) – 3, Robin Gilbertson (Director) – 3, Maddy Robinson (Director) – 1.
Our deepest appreciation is extended to these dedicated men and women who make it possible for local citizens to participate in education in our community. Each of these board members were recognized at the February 11th school board meeting with a certificate of appreciation and snacks. Please join in saying thanks to our school board members during Minnesota’s School Board Recognition Week.
